|ROSE WOOD FURNITURE
Rosewood is a luxurious and rare type of wood characterized by its rich brown to purple hue and hardness. While many species of trees are loosely termed rosewood, in actuality only a few are genuine rosewood trees. Rosewood lumber is highly prized and furniture crafted from the timber typically costs a premium.
The Indian rosewood regularly attains a height of 60 feet with a spread of at least 40 feet and boasts fragrant, white flowers. It is considered hardy to USDA hardiness zones 10a through 11, an area that includes only the extreme, tropical sections of the U.S. The rosewood enjoys full sun and a variety of soil types -- ranging from wet to dry
Uses of Rosewood Lumber
1. As a result of the beautiful appearance of rosewood timber and its intrinsic hardness, it is used to make the highest quality furniture. The wood can weigh about 1,870 pounds per square yard and its high density makes it difficult to work. In addition to fine furniture, rosewood lumber is used to make veneer, flooring, musical instruments, boat keels and even traditional medicines and balms.
Habitat of Rosewood
Indian rosewood is found in habitats with between 30 inches and 200 inches of annual rainfall. The distribution of the tree extends from the foothills of the Himalayas, to the southern tip of India, and even Java in Indonesia. Its best growth is found in the rainforests of the Western Ghats Mountains, in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Naidu. In addition
